Hello I'm an English literature major and I've read most of the classics but I want to read some newer books, newly released like in the 2000s but I'm very picky as most books I picked up for myself felt a bit too surface level, simple language and simple story telling. Now there's nothing wrong with that and I know I might sound snobbish but I feel like there are good books out there, I just got unlucky with my picks and I felt a bit bored.
I'm looking for books that are thought provoking, a bit more complicated story telling and fun to follow along. It could be any genre, fiction or non-fiction. I just want something engaging.
