The sound of the eruption of the volcano Krakatoa in 1883 was heard around the world and lasted for nine days. I'm wondering how it would feel to live during that time, knowing that something had happened, but still going about with life.
If possible, I'd prefer books where the disaster is present enough so as to be like a character – frequently thought about, or something like that.
