I am open to either Non-Fiction or Fiction. As the title implies I 34(F) have always dealt with major anxiety in particular “catastrophe” thinking. My mind tends to go to the worse possible scenario and I dwell on all the negatives and what if’s. Looking for something to help guide me through that negativity or help me see things in a different light. I am open to any and all suggestions of a book that has helped the reader through those particularly tough times. Some additional insight, I have dealt with family/parents who have suffered through alcoholism/addiction which has impacted me all my life and still to this day. Thank you all!

This could potentially help: The unthinkable: who survives when disaster strikes.
I found it to be very helpful just to know what actions can help in a castastrophe.

A nice option might be a poetry anthology or book of essays related to something you’re interested in.
It’s nature for me. I’ve found that by focusing on something small and in a shorter format, I take the time to truly process and step outside my head for a moment. It’s one I’ve recommended over and over again, but “World of Wonders” has been that book for me. It’s beautifully written, focused on the author’s various encounters with nature, and there’s an educational component to each story that helped reset and be in the moment when I read it. I also go back to “Good Poems” by Garrison Keilor time and time again when I need something low-commitment.
Also, Hazelden publishes some really useful books related to Codependency if that’s something you haven’t looked into. Some of those have been eye-opening for me.
