I have finished the first book of 2666 and I'm getting onto the second, but it's not really clicking with me – I understand it's a somewhat meandering style of book relying on its intellectual observations and themes, but none of the observations or tangents particularly connects with me, just because the characters are intellectuals and they talk about books doesn't mean it really seems to have any interesting ideas or view of the world and human experience. So I'm tempted to just stop it here if it really doesn't click with me – but I don't know if it's the type of book that is building up to something greater that is still being set up and I am missing out on a lot if I DNF now, or it's just more of the same throughout (especially given the five parts are apparently independent and able to be read on their own according to the introduction). Certainly there are a lot of books which really build up and gain momentum, so I would love the input of people on here to tell me if this is one of them and I should continue with it.
