I see lots of romance-fantasy books in store shelves these days. I’m looking for something different where the dragon is / dragons are there for the plot and the vibes but not to the point of excessive violence without losing the element of fantasy..

There’s some romance in the dragon riders of pern series. Not all of them have romances but some of them do.
The Dragonian, the Elana Watkins series is a book series about a young woman who has been on the run with her father for some unknown reason and then gets thrust into a school for Magic where they are dragons and everybody thinks that she doesn’t belong there. It’s a very good series, even though I am an adult I read through the series every couple of years it’s pretty good. It does have a couple of cliches in there like the bubbly and weird best friends but it’s pretty good and things get really really bad at some points.
There is also a shorter book called untethered sky that is about a woman with her griffin, it has an entirely different vibes and no dragons but it might just be a pure alley, it’s well done.
