I just watched the movie “Life as a House” and found myself in a weird spot with it. On one hand, I love the premise of a terminally ill father trying to connect with his alternate and sick (drug addiction) son with the little time he has left.
But, I think the film fails. Sam is stripped of his identity over the course of the film, when the understanding between them should have gone father both ways. I also think it would have been more provocative if Sam were actually queer, instead of all the weird underlying homophobic messages the film had.
Anyway, are there any books that present a similar story of a father and son with little time left, but queer? Thanks!
