I prefer novellas. I felt that 'Roadside Picnic' (154 pages) and 'The Stranger' by Albert Cramus (123 pages) were the perfect length.

I recently took a break from reading, mainly because I'm going through a tough time and what I usually read (like the above) are fulfilling, but not uplifting. They can also be cryptic and I don't feel like putting my mind to work. They contain philosophies but you need to look for them. You need to work while reading them, connect the dots, expand on the subtle details.

Then I started reading 'To Be Taught, If Fortunate' (153 pages). This is exactly what I needed. It's uplifting and doesn't make you work yet I don't feel like I'm reading anything too simplistic. It gets technical with the science jargon and concepts that are completely new to me but which it makes accessible by explaining very well so it doesn't matter. You're reading quality from someone knowledgeable and even learning, but you can just relax and clear your mind while reading. I can't wait to start one like it as soon as I'm finished with this one.

What'cha got for me? I'd appreciate it if recommendations are ~ 150 pages long and if not, at least below 200 pages in length. Thank you.

Edit: As for genre, it could be anything, as long as it is quality and not mind-numbing and generic. Could be sci-fi, philosophical, thriller, fantasy, anything. Nothing by Freida McFadden, for example. Also, nothing depressing. I love horror, but it's not the time to be reading horror books. Nothing dark, either.
