I read at least 30-40 books a year and even though fantasy is my go-to genre, I'm a big fan of sci-fi, horror, science, history, and philosophy. I'd like to think I'm always pushing myself to have as diverse interests as possible but I sometimes feel like an inadequate reader for not being able to comprehend/enjoy things like the works of Friedrich Nietzsche,Sidhartta by Herman Hesse, or King Lear. Even LOTR, despite being my absolute FAVORITE movie series, is just such a drag as a book so far 🙁 Those are just some examples but with so many older works I just find it's either incomprehensible or not engaging enough to be worth the time. I know life is too short to worry about things like this but I guess I'm posting for some kind of reassurance.

For the record, there ARE classics I love like Frankenstein, anything mythology related, and the works of HP Lovecraft. So it's not that I'm giving up on all classics it's just there are certain books I respect so much for their cultural impact and feel bad I can't hold them in the reverence they deserve
