I recently read American Psycho and The Shards, by Bret Easton Ellis. Something I liked about those books were the references to music from those eras (late 80s in American Psycho, 1981 in The Shards). I love music and I like that I can discover new great music from books. For example, from The Shards I discovered songs such as:
-
Ultravox – Vienna
-
Blondie – Dreaming
-
The Motels – Total Control
-
Dire Straits – Skateaway
-
Graham Parker – No Holding Back
-
Pat Benatar – We Live For Love
-
Elvis Costello & The Attractions – Oliver's Army
That said, what other fiction books feature references to famous songs/albums?

There’s music references in more than one Christopher Brookmyre book – that’s how I got into Everclear and the Afghan Whigs
And obviously High Fidelity
