I feel like it’s time. Harry Potter had it’s insane moments, kind of like people who watched the Game of Throne series with the level of hype.

But Harry Potter had a worldwide stronghold. A sense of community whether in France or USA or wherever.

It’s been over 20 years…. I wonder if that will ever happen with another series.

    1. Who can say, winds of winter will stir some water IF it ever came out, but only among readers i think. I don’t think there’s any bigger series going on right now.

Red Rising has an ever growing fan-base that is eagerly awaiting the finale of the series…

I don’t think so. I feel like there has been a fall off of both new readers and new writers.

I think that popular culture has split so much due to the Internet/social media that we probably won’t ever see a young adult series at the monolithic level of Harry Potter again. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing, it’s great that people can now find their niche easier than ever before, but it’s sort of sad to not have that one “must read” anymore.

I’m gonna say no, because the entertainment landscape is so massively fractured compared to the late-90’s.

I don’t know, I was just wondering this and something like lord of the rings. These stories took so long to create and now it seems like books have become almost this fast craze.

    7. In the post-modern age of the Internet, it’s unlikely. Every algorithm and recommendation doesn’t really allow for that same type of “viral” hit. Notice how there’s no more viral videos? No more musicians as big as Michael Jackson? Sure you KNOW of plenty but there used to be a different level.

That kind of fame, ironically, only comes from when you don’t have these infinite springs of discussions, and discourse, and reviews, any time at any place any day. In a time when everything available, the possibilities of discoverability is too wide for any one person. It’s too much choice. When word of mouth and ONLY local news outlets were available to spread info, it greatly narrowed the pool of things that reach the average person.

Maybe we will have another hit, but I highly doubt it.

    8. Fourth wing is really good! It’s not for kids … But it’s great fantasy so far!

Not Harry Potter level, but I think SJM has a chance of rivaling Twilight & 50 Shades mania

    10. Twilight and Hunger Games both captured the public interest in the same way. Not as huge of a phenomenon, but certainly the next big thing.

Whatever it is will be a polarizing book series mostly enjoyed by girls. Harry Potter being a male lead also helped give it cross-over for young boys as well, so that might make a difference. Twilight and Hunger Games were bogged down by the “which romantic interest’s Team are you on?” which is not really something Harry Potter had to contend with

I will say no, but then again people were saying no and then Harry Potter came along.

      One cannot foresee
