I've had this exact scenario happen a ridiculous amount if times –
Other Person: "I've been reading a lot lately."
Me: "What are you reading?"
Other Person: "I forgot the name of the book."
In this scenario, they're reading fan-fiction or smut and they don't want to admit it, right? That's the only reason that someone would give this answer, right? Nobody actually forgets the name of the book they're reading.

Lol, I do. I forget the name of the series I’m watching unless it’s super simple and established, e.g., Fallout. I couldn’t think of the title of that show about the comedian in the past for maybe 30 minutes at a party once (it was Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).
I get the titles to Stephen King novels jumbled all the time. “That one about the guy who does this thing, and then the other thing happens.”
People’s brains work differently, and their lives are different. A busy, chaotic life, it’s harder to keep a lot of extra facts at the ready. I remembered *everything* when I was 15. Not so much at 25.
It’s pretty common for people to forget the name of a book they’re reading, especially if they are juggling multiple books or have a busy schedule. The book’s title might not be as memorable as the plot or characters.
