So I understand the commentary and themes regarding the book. Stuff discussing individuality, consumerism, capitalism, toxic masculinity, ect ect. However I gotta hear what some of you think about certain parts.
Where do you think Price went, what do you think that smudge was?
What was up between Bateman and Bono, that irish singer?
If he didn’t kill Paul Owen’s then what do you think happened that night?
Finally, since I have never seen the movie, how different is it from the book? I know some scenes certainly couldn’t be shown.
    I wanna hear your thoughts!

He’s an unreliable narrator and the author is intentionally being excessive – what actually happened isn’t necessarily clear but also not important imo. As for the movie – it’s pretty faithful but not gory and more palatable than the book. It still gets the main points across.

    2. A lot of what Ellis was writing about was his own sort of negativity toward his perception of life so I’m sure he simply disliked Bono. He was purposely vague on what happened and wanted to leave that up to everyone to decide for themselves. At the end of the audiobook there’s a little interview with him about this.

The movie is a lot more tame than the book but has the core elements. Personally, I like the movie more than the book but the book is also much deeper into the mind of Bateman.

    3. I saw on Reddit a few weeks ago that James Van Der Beek’s character in The Rules of Attraction is the younger brother of Patrick Bateman. Blew my mind. Wish I had been smart enough to make the connection.
