Basically what the title states. Books that read as if you’re going through someone’s recounting of past events where the author speaks directly to the reader, as opposed to ones where it’s a play-by-play of what’s happening in the main character’s head.

The first book I read in this style was Cage of Souls by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I think stuff written in this way lend themselves well to an audiobook format, and I’ve been trying to get into audiobooks recently. I’m cool with anything sci-fi or fantasy.

    1. Maybe Demon Copperhead. And similarly, David Copperfield.

I read Copperhead and listens to Copperfield. Both were very good, but Dickens was funnier than I expected.

    2. Maybe a little out there in terms of what you’re looking for but it’s the first book that came to mind. the Pall Bearers Club by Paul Tremblay was a super entertaining audiobook

    3. “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” by Mark Haddon

      “Jane Eyre,” by Charlotte Bronte

“The Glass Bead Game,” by Hermann Hesse

    4. We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver is written as a series of letters to the protagonist’s husband.
