*What Every Body Is Saying: An Ex-FBI Agent’s Guide to Speed-Reading People* by Joe Navarro

*Stalling for Time: My Life as an FBI Hostage Negotiator* by Gary Noesner

Not FBI or CIA, but worth checking out:

*In the Shadows: True Stories of High-Stakes Negotiations to Free Americans Captured Abroad* by Mickey Bergman and Ellis Henican

*Pure Cop: Cop Talk from the Street to the Specialized Units-Bomb Squad, Arson, Hostage Negotiation, Prostitution, Major Accidents, Crime Scene* by Connie Fletcher

*De-Escalate: How to Calm an Angry Person in 90 Seconds or Less* by Douglas Noll

From the related field of interrogation:

*The Interrogator: The Story of Hanns-Joachim Scharff, Master Interrogator of the Luftwaffe* by Raymond F. Tolliver

*The Truth Detector: An Ex-FBI Agent’s Guide for Getting People to Reveal the Truth* by Jack Schafer and Marvin Collins – Same authors as *The Like Switch*.

*Rapport: The Four Ways to Read People* by Emily Alison and Laurence Alison

[The scientists persuading terrorists to spill their secrets](https://www.theguardian.com/news/2017/oct/13/the-scientists-persuading-terrorists-to-spill-their-secrets) – Good article about the authors of *Rapport*.

*Telling Lies: Clues to Deceit in the Marketplace, Politics, and Marriage* by Paul Ekman

I’d also recommend checking out the TV show *[Lie to Me](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lie_to_Me)*. It’s about a “deception detection” expert–a human lie detector–who’s a master at reading faces and body language. Based on Paul Ekman. He consults police, military and private clients and solves cases by figuring who is lying. The key scenes are interrogations, rather than shootouts.

Hope these were the kind of books you were looking for.
