Hi!
Would you please recommend some books for me that meet my weird criteria? I will list them below in no particular order, giving examples.
A\] Is NOT a classic / precursor. It’s important but much has been done in the genre since then. In a “Black Sabbath is the best metal band” kind of way. Please don’t hate me for this.
Example:
“I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson
B\] Main Character walks through a door and discovers a new world or a parallel world
Examples:
“Rough Draft” by Sergei Lukyanenko
“The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” by Haruki Murakami
“Neverwhere” by Neil Gaiman
C\] WEIRD! But this goes somewhere and pays off.
Examples:
“The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” by Haruki Murakami
“House of Leaves” by Mark Danielewski (the pay off here may be questionable)
D\] Has Great Worldbuilding
Examples:
“Ice” by Jacek Dukaj
“The Three Body Problem” by Liu Cixin
“Ambergris Trilogy” by Jeff Vandermeer (even if it was the most boring and disappointing thing I’ve read in years)
Also, it’s ok if it’s horror, if it’s dark, even a bit gory, I don’t mind.

Perdido Street Station by China Mieville – very weird, straddles fantasy, sci-fi, and horror
