Hi! I'm cancelling my audible subscription, but first I have 5 credits to use! I'm looking for something that's not tooooo heavy in subject matter or too dark, but it doesn't have to be the lightest/fluffiest thing around. I'm pretty character-driven and tend to like books that some of my friends find boring.

I'm pretty open to genre – I'm just not one for horror or most high fantasy. I really enjoy nonfiction, especially on audio, and lately I've been on a literary fiction kick. I'll include some favorites down below but they'll be all over the place for genre.

    Some things I've liked:

Non-fiction: Just Mercy, Born a Crime, Factfulness, Utopia for Realists

Fiction: Star Wars (both EU and new canon), Dark Matter and Recursion by Blake Crouch, Normal People by Sally Rooney, Book Lovers by Emily Henry, and I'm currently reading Honey by Isabel Banta

    1. SciFi – Andy Weir books are always a good bet. RC Bray is masterful at anything he narrates. Project Hail Mary was excellent (Ray Porter reads it. He’s fantastic too.)

Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio for sci fi, especially because you said you are character focused

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer also for sci fi, character driven-ish and some found it boring so i think it would fit really well

    3. For non-fiction, “How to Listen to and Understand Great Music” by Robert Greenberg – very educational and entertaining

    4. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt was an excellent Audiobook.

Sci-fi: A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold. It’s Pride and Prejudice in space. The Emperor is getting married. Everyone involved would prefer everything go calmly and without crisis. So of course chaos ensues.

True Grit – narrated by Diana Tartt. Fantastic story that clips along. Awesome characters. Tartt’s narration as Mattie is up there with Sissy Spacek’s Scout from TKAM.

Great nonfiction on space: The Disordered Cosmos by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, A City on Mars by Kate & Zach Weinersmith, Black Hole Survival Guide by Janna Levin, Packing for Mars by Mary Roach

More cool nonfiction: The Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli, Brief Answers to the Big Questions by Stephen Hawking, River of Consciousness by Oliver Sacks

Top-tier sci fi in space: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

Top-tier romance: Love Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood (with science!), Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall, Not in Love beyond Ali Hazelwood (more science!), Well Met by Jen DeLuca

Some great memoirs: Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H, The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher, All You Can Ever Know by Nicole Chung, Hunger by Roxane Gay, Being Seen by Elsa Sjunneson, Being Heumann by Judith Heumann, Love Loss and What We Wore by Padma Lakshmi, Year of the Tiger by Alexa Chung, Hello Molly by Molly Shannon
