If it helps, my top three recent favorites are Lonesome Dove, My Best Friend's Exorcism, and Ring. I love surrealism and atmosphere, as well as conversation in books and complex characters. All that being said, I am also looking for a somewhat light read.

Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury is a good summer read. It’s a coming of age story that takes place in the summertime and includes some magical realism within it’s narrative. It’s very atmospheric and gives you that summertime feeling.
It’s a shorter one, as well, at only 240 pages.

If you’re looking for something a bit longer, I’d go with Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon. It’s another coming of age, summertime story that includes some magical realism in it. It deals with some heavier topics, at times, but a lot of it is lighter and about the main character’s life, growing up.
