Suggest me a book about nautical or land explorations.

I recently visited Australia, during my travel I met this man at a pub and he told me about a book that tells the story of Capt. Cook and how he explored all over the Pacific Islands. I got intrigued with exploration history.

I'm looking for books related to this type of topics, preferably a novel, don't mind if it has fiction but attached to historical facts.

Also, if you know any books about the same topic but told from the side of the oppressed (the natives) I'd really appreciate it.
