I'm trying to spend less time on the internet. I would like to try to replace the internet with reading. I'm having trouble knowing where to begin so suggestions are very welcome! More details below.
In the past couple of years (while making similar efforts to spend less time online), I read several Charles Dickens novels, several Jules Verne novels, and almost all of Agatha Christie. The Agatha Christie books gave me nightmares, so I should probably avoid books like that in the future.
I seem to prefer books that are centered on a principal character, rather than following a story with lots of different characters and perspectives, but that might just be due to lack of experience with reading.
I'm fine with fiction or non-fiction, but strictly no swearing and no sex. Also, I have a very hard time remembering characters in books so I prefer books with fewer characters (which is probably the main reason I haven't branched into Shakespeare).
I was never a big "reader." I did well in school, but I almost never read the books that were assigned, except several pages here or there. I majored in classical literature in a top-10 university and still read very, very little. So I guess I do have a sort of inclination toward more classic works because I feel like I should know them already, and also because I can be confident that they won't have swearing/sex.
