I'm looking for an epic fantasy, horror, or adventure book where fantasy/magic elements are scarce or even in the background to the main plot, similar to ASOIAF books. Magic should be foreign to characters as well as to the reader (for example, if vampires exist, it's not common knowledge).
I'm more a fan of politics, history, mystery, and dread rather than a detailed magic system, but I do like when a story has fantasy elements as a seed of chaos. However, if the first few pages throw at me dozens of new terms of the magic sistem I'm not really into that kind of stuff.
