Hi All. Hopefully I'm following the rules–I'll be right up front that this is my own book (true story, kind of in the middle of "mystery" or "memoir" categories, just got published this week (details at My Grandfather's Clocks)).
It has gotten me thinking about the comparisons of fictions vs. non-fiction (I sometimes think ‘non-fiction’ equates to ‘boring’…which is entirely unfair of me!)
That said, I'm curious if readers find true stories more interesting than fictional stories? I have plenty of fiction that I love (Lord of the Rings, The Stand, Less), but I personally feel a little more invested when something actually happened IRL.
For me, researching and writing about my grandpa's world, I ran into so many unexpected things (Golden Age Hollywood celebrities, NY Amish community, a Montana church…and more stuff/coincidences that I couldn't have made up if I tried).
To me, real life sometimes delivers more drama than actual fiction.
Anybody else encountering that in their reading?
