    My GF is currently going through a tough time in her life. All of her past traumas, daddy issues, and insecurities seem to be creeping up on her and hitting her all at once. Slowly falling into severe depression while battling anxiety.

    She is in her mid-20s, struggling with who she is, what she wants from life, and so on.

    She absolutely LOVES reading and I was wondering if someone could recommend a book I could buy her? I'm not looking for a self-help book or anything like that just something she can use as a bit of an escape or perhaps just a distraction.

    I'm personally not sure if she needs something light, or something she can relate to just to help her feel less alone. (a book about a similar young woman, struggling to navigate life). Open to suggestions.

    I know this might sound a bit cringe, but she is such a wonderful person, and I know no one book will magically fix everything, I am just looking to take a small step in an attempt to restore the sunshine in her life by giving her a space that's exclusively her's (not a reader myself, but Ive heard reading helps with this).

      Bless you for doing this for her.

      I’m from a similarly fucked background with similar lasting issues and a book I really resonated with was;

      The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by Victoria Schwab. The protagonist has been through more than her fair share of shit and has a curse of sorts that makes everyone she meets forget her. A miserable premise but the way it’s written and the journey Addie goes on was honestly very heartwarming and encouraging for me. Not the lightest read but definitely something she could potentially resonate with.

      For more light hearted whimsical recommendations;

      Howls Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I’m sure we’ve all heard of the movie but imo the book is just 10x more enchanting.

      Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery. This is what I read when I’m feeling particularly hopeless and miserable. Anne is just wonderful. She didn’t have the best start to life but this is such a book of healing and growing and making good of what has previously been bad and I love it. Genuinely love it. Additionally the show Anne with an E, although not being the most faithful adaptation, well captures everything that makes this book so comforting to me. Maybe worth a watch for her!

      Best of wishes to you both.

      A wildly absurd, engaging book is The Wisteria Society for Lady Scoundrels by India Holton
