from Boston Public Library:
“This week, Banned Books Week, we defend the freedom to read. Combating censorship is at the core of the Library’s work and one of the most important issues we face as a nation, given the alarming surge in book challenges and other attempts at censorship. To build and sustain a healthy democracy, we must protect the RIGHT TO READ.
The BPL has recently become the third public library in the country—alongside Brooklyn and Seattle Public Libraries—to join a growing movement called Books Unbanned. This initiative will give young people ages 13 to 26 across the United States who have felt the impact of book bans free access to the BPL’s digital collections.”
