If you’re up for something a bit meaty, Wolf Hall is a fictional retelling of the life of Thomas Cromwell, who was born the son of a blacksmith and ended up as a chief minister and advisor to King Henry VIII. He oversaw the split of England from the Catholic Church and the establishment of the Church of England so Henry could set aside his first wife and marry Anne Boleyn. A big theme of the book is how Cromwell was viewed with suspicion and contempt by the royal world he moved through.
