I have a 22 year old younger brother in prison for some violent crimes. I guess he's my brother so my love taints my own picture of him but he's a sensitive kid, traumatised and misunderstood, likely undiagnosed neurodivergent and from what I can tell he's learning to reflect on how he's ended up where he is. No sentencing yet but he's already been in for a couple years and likely will be there for another few more. I've mailed him some books already, he really liked Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. He is definitely more inclined towards non-fiction over fiction, also need to keep in mind that he dropped out of schooling at age 14 so he's intelligent but academic literacy probably isn't at the same level of other high school graduates. Also the prison website doesn't specify much in rules against books but for magazines they prohibit any erotic images, military articles, and publications on drugs, hydroponics, home brewing, weapons, bombs, tattoos and any support of terrorism. Would really love some suggestions, thanks in advance!
