So in the past year or so I’ve recently got into reading again after stopping when I was around 15 (I’m in my early 20s), and started with some books I’d heard Donald Fagen liked as I love Steely Dan.

So far I’ve read Naked Lunch, Junky, The Mind Cage and The Time Machine. I loved all of these and tried reading On The Road, but I actually got so bored I gave up on it.

I guess I quite like old Sci Fi based on this but to be honest I’m open to reading anything based on my liking of these books.

    Any help appreciated!

As has been famously said, “the golden age of science fiction is what you were reading when you were twelve.”

So, fair warning this is what I was reading at twelve 😉.

Larry Niven’s Known Space series is some great semi-hard SF with incredible world building. Lots of short stories and novels, Ringworld is the most famous, but pretty late in the chronological. I’d start with “World of Ptavvs.”

Robert Heinlein was a grandmaster for a half century. Lots of political SF, butter approached as speculation than an actual literal political program. A much more loosely connected shared universe. “Time Enough for Love” was my favorite. But “Moon is a Harsh Mistress” or “Methuselah’s Children” are probably good starting points.
