Hello! I'm looking for more recommendations for a category of book that I love. These types of books have excellent first-person narrators, and they're told in a style that gives you a deep sense of the character's personality and outlook on life. The characters are compelling people who you enjoy getting to know. The writing is clear and moving, not flowery. The plot has to be interesting and make sense, but it's almost secondary to gaining a rich understanding of the people and the world around them. The books don't have to belong to a specific genre.
Books that are perfect examples of this category:
Gilead, by Marilynne Robinson (historical fiction)
The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula K. LeGuin (anthropological sci-fi)
The currently unfinished trilogy that starts with Witness for the Dead, by Katherine Addison (fantasy)
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss comes close. Great book, great first-person narrator, but the plot becomes a little too convoluted towards the end to really fit this category.
Which other books are similar to the first three and would fit this theme?
