I’d like to read books with my baby brother (5) about the importance of accepting different people (especially those who are gay, plus size, trans, disabled, etc). I ask for subtle because my parents aren’t the most open minded

An inspector for the government office regulating “magical beings” is sent to check out an orphanage housing “extreme” youths of varying magical types (fairy, son of satan, a blob, etc). Inspector and the orphanage director are gay. Exactly what you’re looking for IMO. Might want to read ahead on the son of Satan bits, might be slightly scary for a 5 year old – talks about bringing about the apocalypse and what not (but think of it in the tone of a child who’s threatening “I’m not going to love you anymore”).
Edit: Here’s an example:
> “It’s nice to see you,” Lucy singsonged before giggling. “I knew you’d come, Mr. Baker. Though, by the time I’m done with you, you’ll wish you hadn’t.” The smile widened until it seemed like his face would split in half. Flames began to rise behind him, though they didn’t seem to burn the house, and Linus couldn’t feel the heat that should have been pouring off of them. “I’m going to enjoy this far more than you could ever—”
> “That’s enough, Lucy.”
