Critical examination of European Union institutions, structure etc.

I just read Adults in the Room by Yanis Varoufakis. I greatly enjoyed this book, because it sheds light on the real functioning of the european institutions. I wonder, whether you know of any books that take a similar line? I'm not looking for a politicians memoir per se, but for a work taking a critical stance on the european institutions design and functioning or the historical account of their work from a critical perspective.
