Epub is generally hailed as the gold standard for readers in general, and I highly enjoy its ability to reflow text. However, there are a few things that I just can’t ignore even though despite my desire to do so

    1. Annotation

This may be the elephant in the room for some, maybe not. EPUBS are notorious for not being easy to transfer annotated content. Sure, there are certain apps that allow for this. However, the mechanisms of transfer are unique across different software. This means that my annotations can die alongside abandoned software if something happens to them. While I’m very unknowledgeable about these topics and it might be glaringly obvious, this is what I’ve gathered from the scant information I can get about syncing annotations across devices. When we upgrade them or use multiple devices at once or if they get damaged

    2. Value of reflowability

Yes, ebook are reflowable and that’s certainly a huge asset. But, you know, most people use big ereaders or tablets to read them. In my case, personally, looking at a small screen will eventually hurt my eyes, deter me from annotating useful information and browse other critical reviews or analyses of the text the same time, all on one portable device in my hand. This is a personal preference so I understand if others disagree.

    3.App support

With the introduction of epub, there is also an introduction of new apps and systems. I prefer to keep things simple to reduce confusion and clutter. Epub has certainly brought me no end of confusions

So you’re probably wondering why I made this post. I feel like I’m maybe missing out on some great feature that has everyone dropping to their knees for how wonderful epub is. Well, if anyone could enlighten me about them I would be happy to consider. It feels like I’m an oddball who doesn’t know why epub is so great
