I'm looking for a good mystery, thriller, and/or suspense novel. I don't want anything too intense, probably something like a Mary Higgins Clark novel or something by Frank Peretti. I know it's not a thriller but I really enjoyed the Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz.
Also do you have any good novels that either take place during the 1980's or modern day Britain?

Check out Agatha Christie, her novels are set in the 1920s and are great mysteries if you like the MHC-vibe. Lisa Jewell might be another author you’d like, she writes modern-day thrillers that aren’t too intense or graphic and they’re pretty good.
Just finished Defending Jacob. I liked the tv show adaptation a little better (heresy, I know) but it was a good legal thriller!
The Drowning Woman and Local Woman Missing were both very solid thrillers that were fairly fast paced and, IMO, had pretty well done, not too predictable twist endings.
I also enjoyed The Overnight Guest – really well written with a twist I hadn’t read before. The Cartographers is a good mystery (would not call it a thriller) with a few plot holes but the concept of the book was so neat and interesting that it evened out for me.
Lastly, one of my favorites is I Remember You. Ultimately a ghost story but also a mystery, it was excellent and extremely, extremely spooky.
