My fiancé is looking for long reads (preferably 1000 page count or more) similar to Ken Follett’s Kingsbridge Series. He loves historical fiction, preferably series over standalone novels – but either are welcomed! He also really loved the series: Earth’s Children by Jean M. Auel if that helps with what type of recommendations he’s looking for!

    Thank you in advance! 🙂

Alright, going on long historical fiction. Some with very different settings than that of the Kingsbridge Series but regardless –

**The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas** – it’s a classic for a reason and still holds up great – highly recommend.

**11/22/63 by Stephen King** – wildly different setting but it’s really fun and well done – not horror at all and different from what you’d normally think of from King – some consider it his best work – it’s great.

**The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco** – little slower paced but it’s quite good. OG whodunit with monks.

**Shogun by James Clavell** – this is probably more along the lines of what your fiance is looking for. If he enjoys this then Clavell has many others (Tai Pan, Gai-Jin, King Rat, etc)

**The Aubrey & Maturin Series by Patrick O’Brian** – starts with Master and Commander – great stuff.

**Sharpe’s Series by Bernard Cornwell** – set during the Napoleonic wars and follows a sharpshooter regiment.

**Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry** – it’s western – if he doesn’t usually like westerns just tell him it doesn’t matter. It’s so good, he’s bound to love it anyway. Great characters, story, writing – it’s great.

**The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver** – almost certainly not what your fiance is looking for but it’s really great historical fiction and it’s relatively long.

**War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy** – again, unlikely to be what your fiance is looking for but it’s a great book and the lord knows the length is certainly there. Lots of characters and it’s long but otherwise don’t let it intimidate you – it’s quite straightforward.

Edit: There’s also **James Michener** who has written a bunch of very long historical fiction novels set in various places. I haven’t read any myself yet but it’s highly regarded by very many. Hawaii seems to be his most popular but there’s also Texas, Chesapeake, Alaska, etc.

    2. The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy is about multiple generations of an upper-class British family – the first book is The Man of Property

He might also like the Aubrey-Maturin novels by Patrick O’Brian and the Masters of Rome novels by Colleen McCullough
