    Hi Team,

I've been coming to terms with the realization that I have placed outsized weight on the importance of romantic love and the idea of being in a romantic relationship, starting a family, etc. as the primary "goal" of life. I'm looking for novels that challenge the narrative that fulfilling this goal is a requirement for happiness. Can you think of compelling novels which show protagonists who remain single into their later years (either by choice or circumstance) and lead full, robust, and happy lives? I'm open to many genres, but I admit I skew fairly highbrow literary fiction. That said, I'll try anything!

    THANKS!!!

(Note: not currently looking for self-help stuff or nonfiction besides *maybe* biography if the person is right.)
