I just finished this book by Claire Keegan.

All the dialogue is written presumably as Irish people talk “Wasn’t it spilling rain… “, I guess there’s an expression for it in linguistics (other than a rhetorical question), but all the non-dialogue prose and exposition is written in standard (very nicely done) English.

So don’t I go and hear the dialogues in my head as if they’re lines from The Banshees of Inersherin, only to switch immediately to non-accented English for the non-dialogue prose.
I’ve read a few Irish authors back in the day (Marian Keyes, Iris Murdoch, a bit of Seamus Heaney and Yeats at school), and I don’t remember my brain doing this.

Nice short read by the way, but very unseasonal for this time of year.
