i recently read hanya yanigahara’s a little life. it was one of the best books i’ve ever read, but it was also just so full of despair and abuse. i fell in love with the writing right away, reading about even the mundane aspects of the four main character’s’ personalities and relationships was so enthralling because of how pleasurable it was to read.
I felt very empty after finishing this book because I had stuck with it for a couple of weeks at that point. I want something like it, but maybe not as triggering— I can probably only handle a book like that once a year.
I also enjoyed Sally Rooney’s novels for a similar reason. The prose was so addictive, but in some respects her novels lack in plot. So if anyone has some kind of esoteric/ academic/ romantic idk something intelligent and beautiful and even funny idk. Just the kind of book that explores human relationships and personality etc (i know, “🤓”)
I know that was probably a lot of jibberish but I’m having a hard time figuring out what to read next. If you somewhat understand what i’m saying pls leave a recommendation
