My dad wants to start reading since I talk about my books to him all the time, and I really want him to find one he can be engaged in. He’s said that he’s hated reading in the past because he felt too bored but I think that’s probably a result of reading stories he’s not really interested in.
He loves mystery and sci-fi the most, and he LOVESS anything super action oriented. I know that’s pretty broad but I mostly read fantasy and he told me he wasn’t really interested in high fantasy stuff so I’m not sure what to recommend to him haha. I would want to find him something fast-paced, with good action scenes, maybe not *too* long, with either mystery or sci-fi elements (or both!). We’re going to Barnes n Noble later today to help him find something, but I wanted to ask here and see if I could find anything interesting online before we go 🙂

Pick up a Jack Reacher book by Lee Child. They’re fine to be read out of order. That always used to be my go-to when I wanted a quick, fun, hard to put down, popcorn book.
I know a lot of people recommend Blake Crouch as “books to buy to your dad”, specifically ***Dark Matter***. ***All Systems Red*** ***(Murderbot #1)*** by Martha Wells could also work.
If he’s open to read some YA, maybe ***Scythe*** by Neal Shusterman or ***Ready Player One*** by Ernest Cline?
Martha Wells’ *Murderbot Diaries* series of sci-fi novellas. They are action-packed, fast-paced, with minimal world-building. They follow a cyborg that hires out as security to humans at the edge of the galaxy, protecting them from the dumb things they insist on doing. The cyborg has a wickedly deadpan sense of humor.
The first one is **All Systems Red**.
Where do you live? I read many mysteries and thought perhaps one in your area might be good.
For international intrigue Daniel Silva’s series might be good.
