E. M. Forster was riffing on Verne when he wrote the story The Machine Stops. Really his only SciFi work and terrifyingly prescient, especially since the pandemic. It’s in public domain and you can easily find a copy of it online.

Might like to try some Edgar Rice Burroughs. He created the John Carter and Tarzan characters as well as the Pellucidar series which is about a hollow Earth world. Most of his books were written 1910s, 20s, 30s. He was one of many influences on Ray Bradbury, and I get the Verne sensation from a lot of Bradbury stories as well.
