r/AskHistorians have a list but I would love to know what casual readers consider the best political commentary book of their country (or the country they reside in) is.

    I will go first:

    1. India After Gandhi by Ramchandra Guha : This book beautifully captures the heterogeneity of such a vast country. It also shows the journey a newly form country , almost bankrupted by colonialism, destroyed by communal strife takes to reach a stage of stability.

    2. The Rise and Fall of Third Reich by William L Shirer . I will agree that my exposure to the political commentary of my current country of residence is limited. Thus, for me this book is one of the comprehensive books to enjoy this astounding phase of history that shook the world.
