Not super picky about main character, just want something that doesn't fall into the cozy mystery cycle. Murder as the crime is fine as long as it's not detailed enough to get Keith Morrison excited.
Mmm, the Louise Penny (author) Inspector Gamache series are murder mysteries that don’t get too gory. They are still serious, and occasionally veer off into thriller territory, but most of the early books are set in the extra cozy village of Three Pines, among a cozy reoccurring cast of loving friends that all have their secret troubles. Except Ruth. She makes trouble for everyone else. And adopts a duck.
Honestly some of the most wholesome vibing shit I’ve read, amongst the more serious matters in the books.
