Book with Anne of Green Gables vibes (Maritime/Coastal New England, small town, pre-WWII.) Ideally with an older protagonist not entirely focused on child-rearing

Not looking for “Anne of Ingleside” or “Rainbow Valley” as a recommendation as it’s really more about Anne as a mother and stories about her children. I liked it but I’m definitely more interested in a book focused on a female protagonist in her 40s.

Any recommendations? It doesn’t have to be a book written pre-WWII but I’d love it if it was at least set before WWII.
