Hey, so my girlfriend and I are driving for 32 hours to make it home for the holidays, so please keep us in your thoughts and suggest us an audio book or books.

Because we will be driving, we can’t 100% pay attention to the words. So we really can’t do anything where the story hinges on a single sentence or something like that. If the book were simple, that would be better.

In terms of genre, we are pretty open. We both like Kurt Vonnegut. I like books about and featuring conspiracy theories, both fiction and non fiction. She listens to memoirs. Any short story collections would also be nice. Thrillers and mysteries would also be good.

Basically, what I am saying is that I am your digital wall and I would like you to throw things at me

As I stated in another thread… I will always recommend David Sedaris audiobooks, he reads them himself. Try {{Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris}}. Everyone laughs along with this one, though most of them are funny.

    2. **The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories** by Ken Liu seems like it would be a good fit for what you are after. It is a short story collection many of which have science-fiction, mystery/thriller and conspiracy elements. Also a decent amount of the stories incorporates quite a bit of historical (non-fictional elements) accounts which are conveyed through the fictional characters of the story. I listened to the audiobook version and enjoyed it.

    3. I really enjoyed The Feather Thief by Kirk W. Johnson. It introduces you to this whole weird world of Victorian salmon fly-tying and an absolutely ridiculous heist for bird feathers, and if you think that doesn’t sound very interesting, I would have agreed with you before I listened to this book.

Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. It’s written like an 1800s novel and has the feel of a memoir. If you like Jane Austen or have read any of her books, the humor is very similar. Great book and I think the audiobook is about 32 hours long.

The Dead Mountain by Donnie Eichar. It’s about the various conspiracy theories over the death of a group of hikers in the Ural Mountains in 1959. It’s not too long, and quite an interesting mix of hiking, Cold War politics, and meteorological phenomena.

Bonus badass points if you listen to it while crossing a mountain range.
