I'd like to start as early as possible, then work my way forward.
It doesn't have to be too dry and heavy. Maybe Mary Beard or Conn Iggulden level; I learned a lot of Roman hisotry just from reading fiction about the legions, but am not averse to non-fiction as long as it's not too dry.
