I'm looking for books that are giving melancholic (lowkey depressed) vibes, but in the summer. It might be because of an unrequited love-story (no happy ending) or grief, loneliness… The main character should be somehow comtemplative.
I would also like if it happened in some kind of summer family house like there are in the Hamptons or Call My By Your Name. Water near is a must (a lake, the sea or the ocean). Not too YA I guess ? It could be sci-fi (Emily St. John Mandel's books for exemple) or fantasy (some of the short stories in The Ladies of Grace Adieu have that sad-summery feeling)
Some example of medias that I appreciated and fits somehow :
- The start of the tv show Gossip Girl Season 2
- Dead Poets Society (book & movie)
- Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Delleira
- John Green's books
- The Summer I Turned Pretty (books & tv show)
- Call Me By Your Name (movie & book)
- in some way Normal People (tv show) does it for me, or Beautiful World where are you by Sally Rooney
- We Were Liars by E. Lockhartt
Thank you so much for your help !!
