My step daughters (12 and 13) are here for summer. They enjoy reading, so my husband grabbed them a couple of books and they turned out to be not suitable for children lol.

They enjoy mystery, fantasy, etc. They liked Wings of Fire and Harry Potter. Any recommendations?? Ideally minimal cussing, light relationship/romance is ok, but no smut

The Sister’s Grimm series is wonderful, it’s a fantasy-mystery series with nine books in all. The Dark Lord Clementine is a fun fantasy stand-alone that I highly recommend as well as The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy (and other Anne Ursu books! She has a few great books for older middle grade and I’m a huge fan). His Dark Materials series sits in between the middle grade and YA categories and is good for that age, it’s also fantasy and there are three books in the series as well as a few in-between books if they end up really liking them. The Girl Who Drank the moon is another great stand alone.

I really hope this helps! I know these are popular with people around that age at the library I work at.
