I have been really going through a lot of Stephen Kings catalogue over the last year and although I really enjoy his books and writing, I’m starting to feel a bit of a shift in what I’m wanting to read. I think I narrowed my interests down to 2 main categories, but also have a 3rd I would really like to try and explore.

    1. Horror/thriller – the genre I find myself reading the most, and mostly Stephen King… I don’t know if it’s because I’ve read so much of his stuff these last years, but I’m feeling a bit ‘done’ with the teenage/young children themes/main characters. Also, the made up places. It would be great to find some books in this genre/category that are very well written and captivating that don’t have a young adult focus and also take place in real places with real concepts. I loved Prodigal Blues by Gary Braunbeck for instance, as well as The Fisherman.

    2. Biographies/real world stories – not sure if there’s a specific genre i can’t think of at the moment for this but I recently read Shoe Dog by Phil Knight and it was just fantastic. It’s about his journey starting Nike and getting it off the ground, but it’s written as an actual story that’s very captivating and keeps you reading, wondering what happened next or how he was going to overcome that obstacle. You learned a lot of very important things about business, but it was actually fun to read.

    3. Mystery – this is a genre I’ve never actually read, but am really interested in exploring. I’d love to read a really good mystery book to introduce me to this genre and see if it’s something I’d read more of. Similar to the first – ideally something that takes place in real locations with real references and real world concepts

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!
