Looking for a thought-provoking dystopian novel (other than BNW and 1984).. preferably something with maybe a massive empire or world domination or something like that? I just think it would be a really interesting concept if there was a story about an empire that achieves world domination and how that affects the world.

It’s a YA series, but the ‘Uglies’ book series by Scott Westerfeld fits the description

If you’re including fantasy, I’d say that Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson fits that description
The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi has some of this.
