Good day to you all. I am in a dire need for some beautiful and strong discourses/stories to keep myself up at the face the incoming hardship.
Some backgrounds. Sorry if it feels like ranting.
As an East Asian in the process of immigration to North America, I used to believe in the model of liberal democracy. I used to have confidence in the perseverance and righteousness of the way of the West which is the rule of laws with respect to the human rights. And above all, I used to hold a dear (you might very well say that was extremely naive) faith in the decency of the average people in these societies. It was obvious to me that beacause they're so prosperous then in general, people here must be good at their hearts, know what is right and fair and would act accordingly. That's the only reason why I have invested all of my limited resources and even more limited competency to try to move to this side of the globe, I want to live as a decent human, or at least trying to be one in a society that I could respect and trust.
But I assume it was not meant to be. The recent and on going wave of white supremacist in the West, starting from the US showed the true colour of a least half of people here. While the problems of the modern capitalism life are plenty, there are only one possible approach to it, is to cooperate and putting effort to solve the problems head on. The riches need to re invest more to the society to nurture sustainable growth, to create incentives for inovations. And the working people need to learn new skills, to renew themselves and elevated themselves to new roles and opportunities. But the prevailing "solutions" I'm seeing everywhere now is radicalization and blaming. The riches only use their resources to shift the blame away from reinvestment contributions, pointing their fingers at "moral decay", wokeism or ridiculous thing like the Greate Replacement. And half of the working people here bought up all of those lies. To me it's not only a matter of being uninformed. It clearly showed that the average people are very entitled, selfish and simply love to bully or follow the bully. It's much less inconvenient to blame themselves or their bosses than to blame the immigrants. It's a bit funny but mainly soul crushing for me to see colleagues with 20+ years of experience yet don't know how to write an email or how to use excel, how to read basic engineer drawings or even use the fucking printer who would go on to say the immigrants are taking our jobs and killing this country.
Furthermore, North America had a track record of blaming immigrants in the past, like after the gold rush, in the 1920s or when they rounded up all Japanese and stole every bit of land those people owned. With those kind of track records and the current situation, I have zero doubt that thing would only get worst in the next 20 years for people like me at the least. I'm finding my options but things are not looking OK anywhere either, people are generally shitty.
So what are the good stuffs that could help me to hold the candle here? For the record I believe in Jesus even though I have no affiliation with any religious groups whatsoever. I did read the Bible, still reading it, especially the Gospels. But recently I can't help to challenge the notion that God is still actively involved in this world, there is to much sufferings and injustices in this world for too long for that to be true. So reading the Bible now gives me more stresses, not relieving it.
I'm open to any suggestions but I think I would like fictions with philosophical, historical or religious themes the most. I'm literally looking for strong copium, for humannites and beauties to look at and forget the banality of shittiness in reality, forget my helplessness for a while.
Thanks everyone in advance and I wish you the best!
