    TW: Guns, shootings, trauma

Hi there everyone! I apologize for the trigger warning and for the subject of this request. I have loved reading for a long time and I'm excited to join this community!

Not to get dark right off the bat, but I was recently in a shooting at my workplace. A man came in with a specific target, so it luckily wasn't a mass shooting, but still a very scary moment in my life. I have been struggling since the incident and I find it hard to find people who understand me. Since it was not a mass tragedy (which I am VERY grateful for, don't get me wrong), I feel like people don't take it as seriously in some ways, yet it has shook me up pretty bad. It's been almost a month since it happened, and I feel like all my co-workers have moved on, so I just feel like a baby honestly.

Since then, I've been desperate to find a book that I can relate to. I'm looking for suggestions that involve a young character (ideally) struggling after witnessing a violent event. It doesn't have to fit in exactly to my life, but I would like to stray away from topics such as mass shootings if possible (feel free to recommend books with that topic anyway if you believe it is a good book!) and focus on smaller events. I'm currently really interested in characters working through trauma as well.

Again, I apologize for the bummer of a request, but I'm desperate. I appreciate any responses/requests! Thank you all so much!!

I’m so sorry that happened. As far as books go, I’d recommend Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.
