I just read Deposing Nathan by Zack Smedly and adored it, looking for something similar. Themes of trauma, guilt, religion, and internalized/externalized homophobia (not looking for specific sexuality, just LGBT in general) is appreciated. I’m not looking for an evil protagonist, just one that does/says cruel things, either in the past and regrets it or actively in the book, intentional or not. I’m a sucker for ethically and morally ambiguous characters.
