I’ve been trying to get into reading starting with just audiobooks but it’s hard for me to find something I like because I don’t necessarily know what to look for. I have a few books I’ve read and absolutely loved so I’ll list them to give anyone a better idea of what I like:

    1. I love The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde; there’s those psychological elements and nearly horror elements such as murder, however, it’s nothing that’ll keep me up at night. It’s a book I’ve loved since the moment I started reading it
    2. The hunger games series is another favorite, I just re-read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
    3. The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman is another favorite. It depicts a Hmoung families clash with westernized medial care based on a true story. It’s hard for me to not be bored reading history but this book is the exception as it pauses to explain cultural background and practices
    4. I also like the series Scythe, however, I was younger when I got into it and book suggestions based on it seem to feel too young for me. But it is an excellent series

I also love the fiction podcast called The Magnus Archives which I treat as an audiobook essentially. Once again, this has horror elements and psychological horror, but it’s nothing that’ll ever keep me up at night. I’m looking for a good in-between, such as the violence seen in hunger games or Dorian grey.
I’m not into romance heavy books, and I’m not necessarily looking for anything to make me cry.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!!

So if you like fantasy I have a few good suggestions for you, both reading and the audio versions of these are good

Tamora Pierce wrote a bunch of 3-4 book series’ in the same world and focusing on different characters in each series, often seeing former main characters show up in other books or seeing them later in life, etc. She primarily writes female main characters as well and does a good job. Terrier is a good starting point, it follows a young city guard trying to solve a series of murders and child kidnappings

13th Paladin series is really good, the last book just recently came out, amazing voice acting in the audiobook.

Anne McCaffery’s Dragonriders of Pern books technically fall under sci fi, but the overall vibe is agrarian society. No direct conflicts or combat, but really good page turners.
